Hospital (T.C.M) Affiliated to Southwest Medical University, founded in 1983 and featured by the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine, is a A-III comprehensive hospital that integrates medical treatment, education, scientific research, prevention and healthcare, industrial culture, group hospitals and international communications. The hospital certified ISO9001 Quality Certification and became "the Key Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Inheritance and Innovation Project on Traditional Chinese Medicine", "National Institution of Drug Clinical Trials", "Construction Unit of National TCM Clinical Research Base" and "Five-Star TCM Hospital". It has been successively awarded honors, including "National Key TCM Hospital", "Top-100 Brand Hospital of China", "Advanced Group of National Health System", "National Advanced Group of Improvement in TCM", "National Advanced Unit of Medical Prevention", "Provincial Advanced Unit of Comprehensive Hospital Cultural Construction", "National Advanced Unit of TCM Inheritance Management", "National Advanced Unit of TCM Cultural Construction", "National Advanced Unit of TCM Science Education", "National Creative Unit of Hospital Cultural Construction", "National Demonstrative Unit of TCM Electronic Medical Record", "National TCM Culture Promotion and Education Base", "National First-Batch Standing Physician Standard Training and General Practitioner Training Base", "First-Batch ‘5+3’ Professional Degree Graduate Cultivation Unit", "TCM Physician Qualification Examination Base of Sichuan Province", "Advanced Base Party Organization of Education Bureau of Sichuan Province", "Advanced Group of Medicine Health System of Sichuan Province", and "Advanced Base Party Organization of Luzhou". Moreover, it has been awarded the "First Prize of 110 (police station) Social Service Emergency Response of Luzhou" for 9 times.

Occupying a total area of 80.2 mu and a floor area over 200 thousand square meters, the hospital employs a structure of "one hospital & six branches", of which, the branches refer to Chengbei branch, Shuijinggou branch, Zhongshan branch, Longchi Out-patient Department and the driver health examination center and the airport first-aid station. The hospital now has 2000 sickbeds, and there’d be 3000 sickbeds altogether after the Inheritance & Innovation Building of Chengbei branch is put into operation in October 2019. Currently, the hospital has over 2000 employees, among whom, over 300 are senior professionals, more than 300 graduates and doctors, more than 100 doctorate tutors and master graduate tutors, and more than 200 national and provincial academic committee members. In addition, the hospital has employed 182 part-time professors from all over the world.
 
As a construction unit of the national TCM clinical research base, the hospital is designed with several regional diagnosis and treatment centers for TCM encephalopathy, nephropathy and hepatopathy, as well as 57 clinic and auxiliary testing departments, among which there are 2 national key clinical departments (Encephalopathy and Nephropathy), 5 key departments of national TCM management (Otolaryngology, Encephalopathy, Hepatopathy, Nephropathy and ICU), 3 member units of national key TCM professional cooperation team (Prevention Center, Nursing Unit and Clinical Pharmacy Unit), 13 key special TCM departments of Sichuan Province. The hospital owns one Grade A Key Medical Subject Department of Health and Family Planning Commission in Sichuan Province (Anesthesiology) and a batch of hospital key departments, 6 national TCM inheritance offices (Sun Tongjiao, Wang Mingjie, Chen Longhui, Wang Shiqiang, Hu Chunshen and Zhang Maoping) and 2 notable TCM offices of Sichuan (Sun Tongjiao and Yang Sijin). The hospital was approved to build an academician workstation of the people's government of Luzhou. There is also a national key lab, a Sichuan provincial key lab, the Key Disease Prevention Cooperation Center of Sichuan and Sichuan TCM Prevention Center in the hospital, and the Pharmaceutical Preparation Department of the hospital is the key constructive unit of Sichuan. In recent years, the hospital has developed numerous projects of new technologies, and has successively established the Surgical Center, Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of Sports Injuries and Joints, Intravenous Medication Allocation Center, Clinical Nutrient Center, Disease Prevention Center, Chest Pain Center, Intervention Treatment Center, Body-Building Center, Medical Cosmetics Center, Chinese and Western Medicine Integrated Drug Research Center, China-Portugal TCM International Cooperation Center, TCM Phenomics Research Center, Chinese and Western Medicine Integrated CCVD Research Center, etc.

The hospital is equipped with a lot of advanced equipment as well, such as Skyra3.0T, Philips 1.5TMRI, Flash Dual Source CT, Elekta, Xinhua 6MeV linear accelerator, Ysio Double-plate DR, Spiral CT of Siemens and United Imaging, Ceiling and Floor DSA, Medtronic surgical navigation system, Philips 4D color ultrasound, S5 artificial heart-lung machine system, imported automatic medicine dispenser, genetic analyzer, gastrointestinal endoscope and peritoneoscope of Olympus and Pantex, Linvatec arthroscopy, Karl Storz neuroendoscopy, operating microscope of Leica and Zeiss, Heidelberg OTC and automatic biochemical analyzer, as well as a ophthalmologic operation center and several laminar flow operation rooms.

The hospital is under the cooperation with Western and TCM College of Southwest Medicine University. There are two undergraduate departments (Western and TCM Clinical Medicine and TCM) and three auxiliary majors (Western and TCM Dermatovenereology, Western and TCM ENT, Western and TCM Orthopedics) among which Western and TCM Clinical Medicine and TCM are the first-tier undergraduate departments. There are 2 Level-I authorization units for master degree of Western and TCM and TCM. The TCM major is included in the training program of national excellent doctors (TCM doctors); the Western and TCM Clinical Medicine is a special major at national level; and the Western and TCM Clinical Medicine is a national key subject for TCM management as well as a provincial key subject of Sichuan, and included in "Quality Project" of Higher Education of Sichuan. Meanwhile, TCM, a provincial excellent course and Basics of TCM Osteology and Traumatology, a provincial excellent online open course are provided in the college. After being established, the College has bred more than 7000 undergraduates and over 400 graduates from departments of TCM and Western and TCM Clinical Medicine, as well as more than 500 outstanding overseas students. Currently, there are more than 2100 undergraduates, graduates and oversea students in the College.

With a dense atmosphere of scientific research, the hospital has undertaken numerous scientific research projects such as subject of NSFC and 863 and 973 sub-projects. Meanwhile, plenty of laboratories have been established in the hospital, including a Level-III myocardial electrophysiology laboratory of SATCM, a Level-II Laboratory of Sichuan Administration of TCM, a liver biochemistry laboratory, a key laboratory of higher education of Sichuan and the Western and TCM Research Center Laboratory. The hospital has carried out over 1000 research subjects, among which there are over 30 national projects and over 100 provincial projects. Through those projects, the hospital has achieved over 80 awards of scientific achievements, among which there are 1 second prize and 1 third prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Chinese Association for Research and Advancement of Chinese Medicine, 2 third prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of CMA, 1 first prize and over 20 third prizes of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award, and more than 30 Science and Technology Progress Awards of Luzhou. The hospital has also contributed more than 2000 academic articles, among which 100 were collected by the SCI. There are more than 50 researches are authorized with national patents. The hospital has developed 56 types of TCM pharmaceuticals and has established 2 companies from scientific achievements (Luzhou Shennong Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Sichuan TCM Transition Medical Center ).
 
The hospital has built up academic communication and long-term education and scientific research cooperation relationship with countries such as Germany, USA, Japan, Canada, Russia, Portugal and Czech and established the Czech TCM Center, becoming a member of China-CEEC Hospital Cooperation Alliance and a member of the International Heart Disease Center. In 2011, it established the Luzhou TCM Treatment Group which currently consists of 167 member units of medical institutions and has 14 branches under close collaboration.
